139. When tomorrow starts without me
Today is the hardest day for me, as I lost my wife exactly one year ago on this very date, which wasn’t a Wednesday. It was Tuesday.
I dislike Tuesdays, even though it is one of the most significant days for Hindus. Unfortunately, for me, it occurs four times each month.
Suddenly, life changed, and the rhythm disappeared.
The harsh realities of the world gradually became clear within a few hours.
I wanted to express my feelings today in my own words, but I chose not to.
I know that today, wherever she is, she will be thinking of the kids and me with the same intensity of love.
And I remembered David Romano and his poem “When Tomorrow Starts Without Me”.
This heartfelt poem aims to offer comfort and solace to people like us. It encompasses everything related to grief and remembrance.
I have not come across more touching lines written from the perspective of someone who has passed away, offering comfort to those left behind.
Reading it, you can feel your loved one and partner, who has passed away, speaking directly to you and reassuring you that they are happy wherever they are.
The poem uses heartfelt and straightforward language to convey its message of hope and comfort. Its emotional impact reminds us that death is a natural part of life and that memories of loved ones will stay with us forever.
I invite all of you to listen to what my wife tells me today, through this poem…yes, that’s what I’m feeling -
When tomorrow starts without me
And I’m not here to see
If the sun should rise and find your eyes
All filled with tears for me
I wish you wouldn’t cry
The way you did today
While thinking of the many things
We did not get to say
I know how much you love me
As much as I love you
Each time that you think of me
I know you will miss me too
When tomorrow starts without me
Please try to understand
That an angel came and called my name
And took me by the hand
The angel said my place was ready
In heaven far above
And that I would have to leave behind
All those I dearly love
But when I walked through Heaven’s Gates
I felt so much at home
When God looked down and smiled at me
From his golden throne
He said this is eternity.
And all I promised you
Today for life on earth is done
But here it starts a new
I promise no tomorrow
For today will always last
And since each day’s the exact same way
There is no longing for the past
So when tomorrow starts without me
Do not think we’re apart
For every time you think of me
Remember I’m right here in your heart
