306. Let good sense prevail
I'm not certain how much is factual and how much is exaggeration, but it still feels enjoyable to hear.
According to a report released by Axios, a U.S. website, Donald Trump challenged Benjamin Netanyahu over Israel’s threats to resume airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs. The Israel Defense Forces have advised Lebanese civilians to evacuate southern Beirut, prompting thousands to flee the area.
The report states that during a phone call yesterday, the US president yelled at the Israeli prime minister, saying, “What the fuck are you doing? You’re fucking crazy. You’d be in prison if it weren’t for me. I’m saving your ass. Everybody hates you now. Everybody hates Israel because of this.”
The call between Trump and Netanyahu followed Iran’s statement that it would effectively halt talks with the US over Israel’s ongoing campaign in southern Lebanon. Tehran emphasized that Lebanon should be included in a ceasefire agreement to enable negotiations to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and lift the US blockade on Iranian ports.
In February, Trump and Netanyahu jointly launched strikes against Iran at Netanyahu’s urging.
Netanyahu faces political pressure after Israel’s parliament approved a bill to dissolve the Knesset and trigger early elections. Meanwhile, his corruption trial is set to resume after multiple delays stemming from Israel’s security concerns.
