230. Time to revisit Monte Casino or Moroccan Night
Now that the war is on many fronts around the world, it is worth recalling an incident.
War is often viewed as a male-dominated activity, but women frequently suffer the most, both during and after conflicts. A stark example of this occurred immediately following the Battle of Monte Cassino in Central Italy in early 1944.
The Battle of Monte Cassino was a key part of the Allied advance across Italy toward Rome, which was still held by the Nazis. It was one of the most intense battles of World War II, and the Allied victory dealt a significant blow to the Germans in Italy.
However, rather than being celebrated as a heroic effort to liberate Italy, it is now more remembered for the severe violence inflicted on civilians, especially women.
The Italian girls and women who endured months of brutality at Monte Cassino experienced such severe suffering that it was recorded in history as the Moroccan Night, a name derived from the fact that many of the attackers were foreigners.
Moroccan soldiers, part of the French Expeditionary Corps, committed relentless violence against Italian women.
What terrible experiences did the women of Monte Cassino face after dark between January 17 and May 18, 1944?
This is what they subjected Italian women to during WWII.
Not to mention further.
A girl or a woman is among the most vulnerable people on Earth. They give birth to those monsters who later rape her, kill her.
This is no way to demonstrate your power.
