212. Israel’s insecurity will destroy West Asia one day

Today, on February 28, the United States and Israel carried out coordinated strikes on Iran, resulting in explosions in Tehran and intensifying tensions throughout West Asia.

Iran responded with missile strikes against Israel and attacked US military bases in Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, heightening concerns of a wider regional conflict.

Several international airlines suspended or rerouted flights throughout the Middle East, disrupting travel and heightening global security concerns.

US President Donald Trump announced that Washington had begun major combat operations as part of a coordinated multi-day campaign to eliminate imminent threats posed by the Iranian regime.

What he didn’t mention was that it was necessary to calm Israel and ease its insecurity.

I was shaken to see the video footage from Minab, Iran, showing the aftermath of a strike on a girls’ elementary school that reportedly killed more than 85 girls and left another 60 injured.

I am deeply saddened by this and angry.

Iran has consistently stated that it will not develop a nuclear weapon and that its nuclear program serves solely civilian purposes.

History is repeating itself. Bush did the same in Iraq.

Although neither US intelligence nor the UN nuclear watchdog has found any evidence that Iran was pursuing an atomic weapon, a narrative to that effect has been promoted by Israel and the Trump administration.

I’m afraid Israel’s insecurity will one day destroy West Asia completely, as the US will not hesitate to repeat Hiroshima. At least this fear looms large over the next three years of Trump’s presidency.

Israel is a powerful country with powerful allies and the sympathy of half the world's population. It should not feel insecure.

Blessed with the best minds, it should be engaged in technological discoveries for the benefit of its own people and share those discoveries with other countries.

Insecurity is characteristic of weak and poor nations, not Israel.

If it falters, humanity's history will never forgive it.
